Once popular Easter race meeting finally revived;
Racing enthusiast’s wind-up their Easter festivities with an impressive seven-race-card at Ngong Racecourse tomorrow afternoon where the Jockey Club of Kenya has decided to revive the Easter holiday race meeting after several years.
Mulee tips North Africa for glory
Kenya coach Jacob Mulee has tipped North Africa nations to excel in the newly introduced Africa Nations Championship. He said the outcome of the tournament, which will feature only the home-based players, will reflect the trend in the Confederation of African Football Championships League.
Athletics
The national cross country team stepped up its preparation ahead of the World Cross Country Championships to be held in Edinburgh, Scotland. Athletics Kenya named its final 27 member squad for the event. Kenya holds the cross-country title for the third year in a row since reclaiming it from Ethiopia in 2004.
Soya Awards
World cross country and Commonwealth Games 800m champion Janet Jepkosgei aka Nairobi Express and All-Africa Games swimming sensation Jason Dunford won the 2007 Safaricom Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year awards. This year’s gala was aired throughout Africa courtesy of Supersport, who were joint sponsors of the event.
Rugby
It is crunch time as the annual Bamburi Super Series tournament reaches the third week.Two semi-final slots are up for grabs as four teams- SDV Transami, Cheetahs, Nguvu Sharks, Buffaloes and Tanzania Twigsas fight it out in Nairobi and Arusha.
Kenya Open (Golf)
European Tour card holder Iain Pyman recovered from two early bogeys in the front nine to eventually walk away with this year’s Tusker Kenya Open Golf title at Karen Country Club. Kenya professional golf players have rued lack of sponsorship and tournaments saying it had contributed to their below per performance against foreign entries at this year’s tournament.
